Renal and Pancreatic Transplant at Manchester Royal Infirmary

Are you looking to expand your experience in kidney and pancreas transplantation within a high-volume, internationally recognised transplant programme?

We are delighted to invite applications for Clinical Observerships in Renal and Pancreatic Transplantation and Organ Retrieval at Manchester Royal Infirmary, part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to observe and learn from a highly experienced multidisciplinary transplant team delivering:

  • Kidney transplantation (living and deceased donor)
  • Pancreas transplantation
  • Vascular access surgery
  • Organ retrieval through the National Organ Retrieval Service (NORS)
  • Encapsulating Peritoneal Sclerosis (EPS) surgery
  • Islet transplantation

Our transplant programme provides care for both adult and paediatric patients and is one of the UK's busiest and most diverse services. You'll gain valuable insight into complex transplant surgery, perioperative decision-making, multidisciplinary working and the organisation of a modern transplant centre.

Working alongside a team of 10 Consultant Surgeons and 15 middle-grade doctors, observers will experience a supportive, collegiate environment committed to education, innovation and excellence in patient care.

Whether you are preparing for a future career in transplantation, seeking to broaden your surgical experience, or looking to develop international links, this observership offers an outstanding opportunity to learn from leaders in the field. We welcome enthusiastic surgeons from the UK and overseas who are keen to experience one of the country's leading transplant units. We look forward to receiving your application.

Fellowships and observerships at Manchester Specialist Health Academy provide international clinicians with structured opportunities to experience high quality healthcare training within a leading NHS environment. Both pathways offer consultant oversight, a clear induction, and access to modern clinical settings that support a strong understanding of advanced patient care. Participants are welcomed into a professional community that encourages learning, collaboration, and engagement with the culture of Manchester.

While fellows take part in more in depth clinical development, gaining exposure to subspecialties, procedures and research, observers focus on shadowing and understanding multidisciplinary practice within NHS services. Both groups benefit from involvement in clinics, team discussions, and wider learning activities such as simulation sessions, CPD opportunities, and quality improvement insight.
