Managing Acute Mental Health Crises in the Paediatric Setting

A simulation based study day

A Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital simulation based study day

We are delighted to invite healthcare professionals working with children and young people in the acute Paediatric setting to attend an interactive day of teaching and live role player led simulation training.

The study day will aim to cater to a range of pre-existing confidence levels in managing acute mental health in the Paediatric setting. We aim to provide lecture-based teaching sessions interspersed with live role player delivered simulation and will be presenting a proposed structured approach to crisis in the Paediatric setting.

The course is aimed at any healthcare professional working alongside children and young people in a Paediatric setting.

What to expect on the day

During this one‑day, face‑to‑face study day, you’ll take part in a practical and supportive learning experience focused on responding to acute behavioural escalations in children and young people. The day includes:

  • A clear, structured approach to recognising and managing acute behavioural changes in paediatric settings.
  • An overview of the key legal frameworks that apply to safe care, rights, and decision‑making for children and young people.
  • Guidance on managing medical emergencies in eating disorders, including up to date recommendations and learning from real clinical cases.
  • Two simulation sessions per group, giving you hands‑on practice with constructive feedback to help build confidence in responding to crisis situations.

Spaces are limited so that we can maintain an environment that is interactive, inclusive, and psychologically safe for everyone attending.
